RVIO creates an alternative to Wikipedia

In October, the Ripedia website (Russian historical encyclopedia) will work, which the Russian Military Historical Society (RVIO) creates as an alternative to the online encyclopedia Wikipedia.

According to Izvestia , initially the site will be about 24 thousand articles from the Great Russian Encyclopedia, the Orthodox Encyclopedia, two volumes of the historical encyclopedia, as well as about 4,000 copyright articles.

“Our Russian Internet user, making a request in the search engine, most often gets to Wikipedia. Some materials are well made there, and there are many articles with errors, because absolutely any person has the opportunity to go and correct, ”says one of the creators of Ripedia, historian Marina Bobkova. “I, as a professor at MGIMO, often suffer from the fact that my students use unverified information from Wikipedia.”

Unlike Wikipedia, only experts who have passed the history of history and registered on the site will be able to publish articles on Ripedia.

According to the independent Internet expert Anton Merkurov, “it will only be allowed to write articles who will not write anything bad, but they will not allow users to write what representatives of the RVIO do not agree with.”

“Ripedia” is not the only prepared online project that will compete with Wikipedia. In June, speaking in the Federation Council, Minister of Culture, chairman of the RVIO Vladimir Medinsky announced the “Russian“ Wikipedia ””.

“Now historical knowledge is drawn from Wikipedia, what they write there - it’s not for me to tell you.
