
The Oktyabrsky District Court of St. Petersburg sentenced the ex-deputy of the State Duma Mikhail Glushchenko to the 17 years, RIA Novosti reports . He was found guilty of organizing the murder of the human rights activist and politician Galina Starovoitova.
At the last meeting, it became known that the representative of the state prosecution asked Glushchenko to appoint 17 years in prison in a maximum security colony instead of 13 years announced earlier.
The defense of the ex-deputy asked Glushchenko from criminal liability for the expiration of the statute of limitations.
Glushchenko called the customer of the murder of the Starovoytova famous businessman Vladimir Barsukov. "The accused concluded a pre -trial agreement on cooperation, in accordance with which he found himself guilty and gave detailed testimony. He said that, having received an instruction from Barsukov, he personally found the performers and controlled the preparation for the commission of the crime," the representative of the state prosecution said.
As a motive, the intention was named "to stop the socio-political activity" of Starovoyova. Thanks to the testimony of Glushchenko, a place was established where he received instructions from Barsukov to commit a crime.
Glushchenko said that he agreed to organize the murder, fearing for his life and the life of loved ones. “He ordered, we did. If he hadn’t done it, I would have been killed. He is a very cruel person. I have no remorse that I betrayed him, I want to tell about him for a long time,” Glushchenko said.
Starovoitov was killed on November 20, 1998 at the entrance of his house on the Griboedov channel in St. Petersburg. Politics and her assistant Ruslan Linkov fired at. Starovoitov died on the spot, Linkov survived.
In the case of the murder, three people are already serving a term. One of the organizers of the crime, the ensign of the GRU Yuri Kolchin, received 20 years in the colony, and the direct performer Vitaly Akishin - 23 and a half years. The customer of the murder was not found.
In August 2013, the investigation in the case was resumed. In November of the same year, Glushchenko, who was serving an eight -year term in a maximum security colony for extortion, were charged under part 3 of article 33 - Article 277 of the Criminal Code (complicity in organizing an encroachment on the life of a statesman) in connection with the murder of Starovoyova. According to the prosecution, Glushchenko, having received an order for the murder of Starovoitova, handed it to Kolchina.
