According to the preliminary version, Ayubov demanded from his nephew to stop drug trafficking, which "served as the soil for the conflict."

The North battalion was created in 2006 with the assistance of the then Prime Minister of the Republic of Ramzan Kadyrov. It includes about 700 people. The commander of the unit is Alibek Delimkhanov.
