The writer Oliver Sax died

On Sunday, August 30, at the age of 82 in New York, an American neuropsychologist and writer Oliver Sachs died.

According to The New York Times , the cause of death was an oncological disease.

Oliver Sax was born in 1933 in London, in 1958 he received the degree of doctor of medicine at the University of Oxford, in 1960 he moved to the United States.

Since 1965 he lived and worked in New York, was a professor of neurology at the medical college named after Alberta Einstein, Adjunct Professor of the Neurology of the Medical School of New York University. He corresponded with the Soviet neuropsychologist Alexander Luria, often referred to his work.

Oliver Sachs combined medical practice with literary activity. Books in which he describes the experience of his patients are translated into 20 foreign languages.

In Russian, the books “Awakening” were published, according to which in 1990 a film was shot with Robin Williams and Robert de Niro, “The man who took his wife for a hat”, “Migraine”, “Anthropologist on Mars” and “Leg as a point of support”, “Eye of reason”, “visible voices”, “hallucinations”.
