
A group of scientists from the University of Michigan has developed a material that, using a reactive fluid, is able to recover after damage, RIA Novosti reports.
According to the New Scientist , the recovery of the material occurs using a substance called Tributylborane, located between two polymer sheets. This compound reacts with oxygen and hardens, which leads to tightening holes in just a few seconds.
The creators of the new material posted a small video on YouTube, demonstrating the process of self -healing the sample after a bullet entered it. New Scientist compares this process with the restoration of the T-1000 robot in the film "Terminator-2: Day of Judgment".
The material developed by American scientists is not unique, but it is favorably different from other self -healing materials, since it is able to “heal” the resulting damage much faster. Thanks to this property, it can find application in the space industry, since any damage to the shell of a ship or spacesuit is a mortal danger.
