Ten "two"

Rostov-on-Don, August 25, 2015 on August 25, the North Caucasus District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced two Ukrainian activists: director Oleg Sentsov and Anti-Fascist Alexander Kolchenko. Both received significant deadlines. Oleg Sentsov - 20 years of imprisonment, Kolchenko - 10. Modern Russia did not yet know such sentences on political affairs.

“This is the most shameful business of our justice over the past years,” said NT Lawyer Kolchenko Svetlana Sidorkina immediately after the announcement of the sentence. Activists were detained by special services in the Republic of Crimea back in May 2014, immediately after its annexation. According to the Russian authorities, they created the “terrorist community” and committed two “terrorist attacks”, trying to set fire to the offices of the local branch of United Russia and the “Russian community of Crimea”. During the “terrorist attacks”, however, no one was injured, and the total damage amounted to no more than 30 thousand rubles. Moreover, Gennady Afanasyev, on whose testimony the prosecution was based, was publicly from them, saying that he slandered his ally under torture.

Despite this, the North Caucasus District Military Court convicted. After listening to the verdict, Sentsov and Kolchenko sang the Ukrainian anthem. “The court of invaders cannot be fair by definition,” President Petro Poroshenko commented on his Facebook. Lawyers of activists, in turn, promise to appeal to the Supreme Court, but do not hope for objectivity and prepare documents to Strasbourg in advance.
