Yerevan: protesters are detained against raising tariffs

In June, mass protests were held in Yerevan with a demand to cancel the increase in electricity price

In Yerevan, the police detained five activists of the movement "No robbery!" When trying to hold a protest against raising the electricity tariff from August 1 by 16 percent. According to the Armenian Radio Liberty Service , the demonstrators intended to make a certain statement with the president’s residence, but the police blocked the road and surrounded them. According to the online publication, the Caucasian Knot , the protesters demand the release of the detainees, otherwise they intend to block Bagramyan Avenue.

In June, mass protests were held in Yerevan with a demand to cancel the increase in electricity price. After the dispersal of the rally on June 23, when 237 demonstrators were detained, seven of whom were injured, activists also demanded to punish the police who used the power . In early July, law enforcement agencies dismantled the barricades and restored the movement on Marshal Bagramyan Avenue, where the protesters gathered. On July 10, protests ceased, but coordinators of shares against the rise in price of electricity said they would continue their struggle.
