Estonian architects are going to discuss for three days with Finnish colleagues the construction of the tunnel Tallinn-Helsinki

Estonian and Finnish architects during a three -day meeting will discuss the idea of ​​building a tunnel between Tallinn and Helsinki.

“Architects want to analyze the influence of such large infrastructure projects as the construction of the Rail Baltica high -speed railway and tunnel on the urban environment of Tallinn and Helsinki, planning technical networks and reducing the negative consequences of construction to a minimum,” Interfax quoted the Words of the Estonian Union of Estonia of the India Alleman.

On each side, 20 specialists will be represented. For work, they use simulation programs and visual materials.

So far, the authorities of Estonia and Finland do not give official comments about the tunnel laying. It is assumed that if the project is approved and the EU will help with financing, the tunnel can be built by 2030-2035.

The length of the railway structure, if it is built, will be at least 60-80 kilometers, of which 50-70 kilometers will pass under water at a depth of 200 meters. The project has been actively moving by the mayors of two European capitals over the past seven years. However, the application of Estonia and Finland to financing by the EU was rejected.

It is assumed that the tunnel could become part of the modernized Rail Baltika cargo track connecting Helsinki, Tallinn and Berlin. The payback period will be up to 40 years. According to ERR.ee , the cost of construction will be from 9 to 13 billion euros.
