The “Turkish stream” gas pipeline will begin with the construction of one thread of the gas pipeline, according to which gas will be supplied to consumers in Turkey itself. The construction of the remaining threads will begin after assessing the demand for gas in Europe, said the deputy head of Gazprom Alexander Medvedev.
Ankara did not refuse plans to build the second and third threads of the Turkish Stream, but will finally determine the future of the project based on the results of the assessment of Europe for gas, Interfax said, citing the deputy chairman of the Gazprom Board of Alexander Medvedev.
“If someone thinks that Türkiye has abandoned the second and third thread, then this is not so. Everything will depend on what demand will be presented to Europe,” Medvedev said.
He said that Gazprom agreed with Turkish partners that first to determine the number one thread and only then watch the other threads. For starters, Gazprom would like to build one thread of the “Turkish stream”, and then evaluate the development of the project, ”Medvedev said.
He called to pay attention to the words of the head of Gazprom Alexei Miller that in the near future Europe would need 80 billion cubic meters. m of additional gas imports, there is no infrastructure.
The Turkish Stream project replaced the South Stream in December 2014. The tasks of this gas pipeline with a capacity of 63 billion cubic meters per year include ensuring gas supplies from Russia to the west of Turkey. For these purposes, the first thread of the highway, which is ready to build Türkiye, should be built. Threads to the south of Europe should, in turn, replace Ukrainian transit.
Earlier, the deputy head of Gazprom estimated the cost of building the first thread of the Turkish Stream gas pipeline about 3.3 billion euros.
In early August 2015, it was reported that Gazprom revised plans for the construction of the Turkish Stream and would refuse the third and fourth threads of the gas pipeline.
