The library that they were waiting

As you know, the summer of 2015 turned out to be rich and popularizers of science rich for events. Unfortunately , it would be difficult to call them pleasant . Nevertheless , life continues . The work continues . In recent years, the educational movement has only gained momentum: the number of lectures and various sites multiplied , more and more scientifically popular literature has been produced . One of the interesting projects in this area was the scientific- popular library No. 1. Having appeared just a year ago, Nauchka already managed to become quite famous in the capital. - Artyom , how did the idea of ​​such a bold undertaking come as the KA library ? Who is the author and team of the project ?

- My house has ended a place for books. Yes, everything is so simple. Books are in the cabinets in two rows, lie on the tables, rise on bedside tables. In general, a mess. I work in the Russian Academy of Sciences and study thermophiles. But what to me, that my comrades were always interested in knowing what is happening on other “fronts” of knowledge. Scientific and popular literature is best for these purposes. And there are more and more scientific science publications. I thought that it would be nice to take place where it would be possible to accumulate all these books. The second thought was the idea of ​​public access to these wealth. After all, it is extremely pleasant to communicate with educated people. Having sorted out possible options in my mind, I came to the conclusion - we need a library. Moreover, people who are versed in the theme should form the fund in order to avoid false scientific works, which often slip past the eyes of ordinary librarians. The decision was made. The team of people who are ready to embody it also got very quickly. Extensive ties with the young scientific community helped. Within a month we found an exit to Boris Kupriyanov, a well -known figure in literary circles. We were allocated a small platform near the Paveletskaya metro station, and we began to work under the patronage of the Moscow City Library Center. This happened in November 2015.

- What is your mission ? Well , at least , how do you see her ?​

-Our mission is to create an adequate and spiritual educational, scientific and educational space. The formation of a modern scientific picture of the world among active youth, if you deign. That is why we try to attract people with different formats. We have a wonderful constantly replenished fund of books that we receive directly from publishers, and all kinds of lectures from domestic popularizers, but what can I say, we even have our own club of popular science debates.

- What are the features of the project ?

- Peculiarities? There are many of them, but there are two main ones. The first, as already mentioned above, the fund of modern popular science books. Some appear with us even earlier than on store shelves! The second is people. The team of the organizers and visitors of our "science". Here are biologists of all stripes, and nuclear physicists, and design engineers, and astronomers, and ecologists. And all these people communicate, exchange opinions, write reviews of books. This is cool. So far, the natural-scientific component prevails with us, but a new working season and big plans for expansion are ahead.

- What are the successes ?

- Over 6 months of work, we collected more than 200 books of books in our walls, held about 25 events, more than 1000 people passed through the “Science”. On our site or on social networks, you can always see the list of past events. So, in various formats, such famous enlighteners as A. Pankin, A. Kazantsev, M. Gelfand, K. Alferov, S. Drobyshevsky and others have already performed in us. Among the lecturers there are scientific and popular journalists, and scientists, and even an ex-minister of natural resources of the Russian Federation and a corrosion member. RAS. In my opinion, this is quite a success.

- In your opinion , is there a demand for scientific today - for pularly literature and bi blitopa reading ?

- Of course, the main influx of people in the library occurs during lectures or meetings of the Debat club. I think this is normal. There are not many people to read books. It happens that they come for advice on where to start immersion in a particular area. Sometimes they just come to sit and quietly work on their course or diploma. People are different. But I'm sure the paper books will not be completely replaced by electronic. The sensations are not the same. Yes, and it is better remembered when the fingers remember the rustle of the pages.

- I will ask the patient a question for the premises of popularizers : what are you going about prospects in connection with the roofing of the Dynasty Foundation ?

- Yes, the popularization of science in Russia is now serious problems. Very competent people worked in the Dynasty. And it was they who allocated the first books for our library. But I believe, we will stand.

- What are your plans ?

- On September 2, we leave the summer break and open the second season of the work of our library. There will be even more books, there will be new lectures, there will be new people. We hope that it will be possible to open a small popular science bookstore in addition to our library. It hurts a lot of people at first “try” the book with us, and then they rush around Moscow stores in the hope of buying it. But this is a little plan a little in advance. Now we have the task of finding a good camera so that our lectures can in decent quality to watch people from other cities. We understand that Moscow is by no means limited to Moscow. During the expeditions of this summer, several representatives of the “Science” visited the library located in the center of Kamchatka, agreed on an exit lecture. We will also develop this direction.

In conclusion, I would like to wish the readers of the most important thing: not to lose, not to lose in all this information garbage, which bring down the present on us, the very feature that allowed us to go into space - to maintain curiosity. And we will try to help with this.
