On September 9, a court in St. Petersburg refused to grant a request to change the preventive measure for Gorbunov from detention to house arrest - the judge considered that, being under house arrest, the accused could destroy evidence. The next day it was confirmed that the senior investigator for especially important cases of the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee, Alexey Serdyukov, was removed from all cases related to Gorbunov, in particular, from the case of his abduction and the illegal possession of weapons in relation to the manager of the plant himself, for which he was under arrest guards. Kashin’s defense took the change of investigator - now the case is being led by the investigator for especially important cases, Lieutenant Colonel of the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee Vadim Sotskov - as a signal that the case will be “let go.”
In April last year, at the request of Gorbunov, a case was opened about his kidnapping - the general director of Prominvest claimed that he was injected with an unknown substance and was forced on camera to confess to organizing the attack on Kashin, and to name the governor of the Pskov region Andrei Turchak as the mastermind of the attack. Gorbunov’s subordinates were accused of the kidnapping; during the interrogation, counting on a deal with the investigation, they told about the boss’s weapons caches. As a result, in June 2015, Gorbunov was arrested on charges of illegal possession of weapons. During the investigation of the case against him, investigator Serdyukov received testimony from several more of his subordinates - ex-chief of security at the Mechanical Plant Danila Veselov and his colleague Mikhail Kavtaskin said that they, together with another security guard Vyacheslav Borisov, attacked Kashin on Gorbunov’s order.
