A court in Moscow arrested “God Kuzya”

The Tagansky Court of Moscow decided to arrest Andrey Popov, who calls himself "God Kuzey", on suspicion of fraud. The investigation petitioned for Popov's arrest.

The suspect's defense insisted on his release. According to Popov's lawyers, the man cannot move independently and is visually impaired.

As noted in the court ruling, given the data on Popov's personality and the severity of the act incriminated to him, the court did not find grounds for choosing a milder measure of restraint for him. So, while remaining at large, he can hide from the investigation, try to destroy evidence, put pressure on witnesses and other participants in the case, and otherwise obstruct the investigation.

• Andrei Popov was detained on September 3 on suspicion of fraud. During a search of the man's house, they found about 43 million rubles and about 100 thousand dollars in cash.
• According to investigators, Popov organized a sect whose members collected donations under the guise of representatives of various churches. Popov himself said that he did not know about the origin of the money found from him.
• A search in the premises where Popov lives was previously conducted in 2014. Rare animals were seized during the search.
