Employees of the under -secret laboratories of the Pentagon, apparently, incorrectly marked potentially deadly bacteria, and also stored and transported them in violation of safety standards. The discovery of anthrax bacteria on one of the military bases in Utah has led to the preventive closure of all nine laboratories of the US Department of Defense, DW reports.
On Thursday, September 10, the Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook said that army experts are currently checking information about improper handling samples of anthrax, plague and encephalitis. In addition, it turns out if they were threatening for people and whether they were incorrectly marked and sent by mistake to other laboratories.
According to CNN , this investigation is a part of a large case, within the framework of which the circumstances of the improper handling of spores of the anthrax are also found out.
The last incident, which attracted the attention of the specialists of the Center for the Control and Prevention of Diseases, is associated with the discovery of the samples of plague pathogens in the refrigerator on August 17 outside the hermetic zone in the Edgewood Chemical and Biological Center of the US Ministry of Defense in Maryland.
Currently, it turns out whether these samples are dangerous for humans. According to army experts, they are not at risk to people.
In addition to the samples of the pathogens of the bubonic plague, which destroyed more than half of the population of medieval Europe, we are talking about two dangerous viruses that cause East horse encephalitis and Venezuela horse encephalitis. These diseases are transmitted from animals to humans.
Recall that in May of this year, the US Ministry of Defense mistakenly sent the living controversy of the Siberian ulcer to dozens of laboratories both within the country and abroad.
The Siberian ulcer was sent from a military laboratory under the Dagui training ground in Utah. It conducts exercises to protect against chemical and biological weapons. According to the Pentagon, the disputes should have been sent in an inactive form and then be used in studies, the purpose of which is to create a field test to determine the safety of the environment.
