President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko called an unacceptable idea to exchange the Crimean prisoners of Oleg Sentsov and Alexander Kolchenko for the arrested special forces of the Russian GRU Captain Evgeny Erofeev and Sergeant Alexander Alexandrov. This was announced on his Facebook page by the British journalist Oliver Carroll, who was an interview from Poroshenko for the newspaper The Independent. The publication will be released on Monday.
Poroshenko was asked whether he received an offer to such an exchange. The Ukrainian leader replied that this information is incorrect. At the same time, he added, the exchange of filmmakers for captured combatants would be unequal.
“This is not a matter of exchange,” Poroshenko remarked. “I am doing everything that I can return the Ukrainian heroes home. I will achieve success, because I have to support the Ukrainians and the whole international community with me is solid. But the difference between these people (Sentsov and Kolchenko, on the one hand, and Erofeev and Alexandrov - on the other. - Ed.) .
Meanwhile, Vladimir Ruban, who leads the Center for the release of prisoners in the public organization Officer Corps, said on Saturday on the air of Gromadsky TB that the proposal to exchange Sentsov and Kolchenko for special forces of the GRU came from representatives of Russia during the negotiations held last week in Minsk.
“I will not call the source, I won’t call the side with which we talked,” Ruban remarked. He further emphasized: "It is at their request. These are representatives of Russia, not Donetsk." The social activist noted that the conversation was "very serious."
Now the decision on the exchange of exchange has to be made by Ukraine, Ruban concluded. “But I see that the Ukrainian side decided to delay the answer to this question,” he remarked.
On August 25, the North Caucasus District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced the film director Sentsov and the left activist Kolchenko to 20 and 10 years of strict regime, respectively, for fabricated accusations of terrorism. Sentsov rejected the guilt in full. Kolchenko recognized his participation in the imputed episode, but categorically did not agree with his qualifications under the article on the attack.
Erofeev and Aleksandrov were captured on May 16 near the city of the happiness of the Lugansk region. The Russian Ministry of Defense still refuses to admit that at the time of arrival in Ukraine they remained in the actual service, and were captured during the fulfillment of a combat mission.
