In St. Petersburg, the court extended until November 4 the arrest period for the perpetrator of the attempt on Kashin, Danila Veselov.

The Moskovsky District Court of St. Petersburg on Wednesday decided to extend the detention of Danila Veselov, one of those accused of the attempted murder of journalist Oleg Kashin, until November 4, 2015. This was reported by a Mediazona correspondent from the courtroom.

Veselov himself and his defense asked to be transferred to house arrest. The investigator and top manager of the Zaslon holding, Alexander Gorbunov, who was released on his own recognizance, opposed easing the preventive measure. Gorbunov himself was not present in court; the lawyer handed over to the court his appeal, in which he said that he feared for his life.

Danila Veselov, arrested as one of three direct participants in the attack on Oleg Kashin, fully admitted his guilt and asked for a pre-trial agreement, promising the investigation to “provide information about the circumstances of the organization and commission of the crime, the role of each of its participants - Gorbunov, Turchak, etc.” . The second perpetrator of the crime, Vyacheslav Borisov, is hiding in Belarus. The third participant in the attack, Mikhail Kavtaskin, who played the role of driver, was arrested and is in jail.

Earlier on Wednesday, Kommersant published an interview with Veselov’s wife, who said that she had a recording of her husband’s conversation with the governor of the Pskov region, Andrei Turachk, in which he gave instructions to deal with the journalist.

The top manager of the Zaslon holding company associated with the family of Governor Turchak, Alexander Gorbunov, whom the detained participants in the attempt pointed out as the organizer, is now in the status of a witness in the case. He was placed in a pre-trial detention center on charges of illegal weapons trafficking. On September 9, the court refused to release him under house arrest. On September 11, investigator Vadim Sotskov released him on his own recognizance.
