At the Island of the 90s festival, which we hold on September 20 in a museon together with the Foundation "Presidential Center B.N. Yeltsin ”(Yeltsin Center) and the portal “ Your History ” , an exhibition of the Berlin photographer Petra Gall“ On the Roads of the CIS ”will be presented. In 1991-1996, Peter Gall took part in several biker tours, which passed along the roads of the Commonwealth of Independent States - geopolitical education that arose on the wreckage of the Soviet empire. Walking around the Ural motorcycle post -Soviet space from Vilnius to Samarkand, Peter Gall shot reports on the order of German magazines Biker News and Motor R Ad. The Gall photographs captured the moments of the protection of the White House in 1991, the Baltic separatism and many other moments from the daily life of the 90s, containing elements of communist archaic and signs of the new time.
Petra Gall was born in hilly Saara, who became the tenth land of Germany only in 1957. Having run away from home in adolescence, Petra found herself in Berlin in 1981. Now this is a long -standing moment of history about the divided post -war Germany, but at the present time the theme of the GDR/Germany is responding in German hearts - especially in Berlin; The division into the capitalist and socialist parts of the country passed right through its capital and was marked by the construction of the famous Berlin wall.
The theme of the GDR and the possibilities of an alternative community did not ignore Peter. Maybe these were her first photographs as part of trips on “Friendship trains”, which traveled to the countries of the social camps of the seventies. Surely, from there, it originates from the country of Soviets, where Petra found herself, being already a professional photojournalist of the Zebra agency, on the instructions of the youth magazine "Blikpunct". She immediately ended up in a certain Terra Incognita for most foreign correspondents: she was accepted as his Moscow youth underground. Having taken more than one hundred photographs about the backstage life of the USSR Moto Rocker movement, Peter Gall worked with various German magazines for a long time in the nineties, when she joined the feminist movement of Germany. It is thanks to her photographs that the life of the transition period between the USSR and the present Russia, the period of the collapse of the Soviet community, can now be seen in the form of one whole photo shoot from an extremely unusual angle. The perspective of the vision of a motorcyclist, moving over huge distances from Gibraltar to Samarkand with short stops for concerts, informal weddings, rocker mototus and club parties.
