The Hungarian Parliament decided that the country's army can protect the state borders. The military will not be able to use lethal weapons, but they are allowed to fire rubber bullets.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said the police are unable to cope with the flow of refugees. According to him, the army is mainly needed on the border with Croatia. On the border with Serbia, the Hungarians have already put up a fence, which Orbán said is helping much better than expected. Now a fence is being erected on the border with Croatia.

“Europe is rich but weak. And this is the most dangerous combination,” Orban said. “The result is a disaster. Since Europe cannot protect its external borders, it has to close its internal ones.”
