Americans announced Russian drone flights in Syria

Reuters reported , citing two unnamed US officials, that Russian drones have begun carrying out reconnaissance missions in Syria. Agency sources did not specify exactly how many drones are involved in these flights. The US Department of Defense declined to comment on this information. There were also no comments from the Russian military.

• Officially, there are Russian instructors in Syria who are training the Syrian military under contracts for the supply of weapons to this country. Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem claimed that the Russian military was not taking part in the fighting.
• On September 14, Reuters reported, citing unnamed US officials, that Russian tanks and artillery had taken up positions at the Latakia airport in Syria. One of the agency's sources said that seven T-90 tanks were seen at the airfield. This information has not been confirmed by other sources.
• The Kommersant newspaper reported on September 21 that there were more than 1,700 Russian military specialists at the Russian Navy's logistics center in the Syrian port of Tartus. One of the contractors seconded to the base in Tartus told the publication that the Russian military "equip and protect the facility."
