France will sell Mistral helicopter carriers to Egypt, according to the official blog of the Elysee Palace.
France did not disclose the amount of the deal. However, the speaker of the French government, Stephane Le Fall, assured that there were no losses due to the deal, writes Reuters.
The head of the State Duma Defense Committee, Vladimir Komoyedov , said that Russia would approve the sale of the ships.
Earlier today, the media reported that Paris is in talks with the Egyptian authorities to buy two Mistrals. It was noted that Egypt was not satisfied with the price requested by France.
Recall that in 2011 Russia and France signed a contract for the construction of two Mistral helicopter carriers. The ships were built, but the French side refused to transfer them to Russia because of the sanctions imposed on the Russian Federation and the situation in the south-east of Ukraine.
