Because it is clear that Obama had a rare chance to talk about the fate of the world with the conqueror of Sevastopol, the hero of Debaltsev, the savior of Latakia and the last hope of Tiraspol, the emperor of Great and a piece of Malya and - if we make a base - white, and other, and other hidden territories. So why not take this chance?

But at the same time, it is the side that agrees to the meeting that will determine its genuine agenda. And in this sense, the interpretation of the petitioner and the agreeing clearly does not coincide. They want to talk about Syria in the Kremlin. And in the White House - about Ukraine. And this, as they say in the Odessa not captured by Putin, are two big differences.

Putin still hopes that Obama will be able to “suck” his desire to preserve the gangster regime of Assad in order to fight the “Islamic state” and will receive indulgence for actions in the Ukrainian direction. There will be none of this. In relation to the situation in Syria, Obama is only interested in one thing: so that Putin does not give up, helping his friend, and does not destroy opposition detachments fighting with the radicals. In Washington, they are well aware that Putin’s participation in the Syrian conflict is by no means an increase in the struggle with the “Islamic state”, but the strengthening of Assad in the fight against all its opponents. And no one said that the Islamic State has his first in line.

Obama needs that Putin does not do what he cannot do, but what he can do: stopped the war, which he himself untied. Therefore, the President of the United States will talk with the President of Russia not about Syria, but about Ukraine. About how the measures of influence on Moscow can be strengthened, if Putin does not calm down, and how these measures can be weakened if the Kremlin refuses further aggression and begin this rather than an ostentatious descalation.

And only Putin himself decide what to choose after this, such an important conversation for him - a whip or a gingerbread.
