On Friday, Swiss prosecutors said they had opened a case against FIFA head Joseph Blatter . He is suspected of abuse of power and theft.

According to the prosecutor's office, Blatter is suspected, among other things, of making a “misdirected payment” at the expense of FIFA in the amount of 2 million Swiss francs (more than $2 million) to Platini. The payment was made in February 2011. The money was allegedly transferred for work performed between January 1999 and June 2002.

According to a Reuters source in Swiss law enforcement agencies, Platini presented evidence against Blatter to the prosecutor's office. According to him, there is no investigation being conducted against the head of UEFA. The source noted that the prosecutor's office also spoke with several witnesses who intend to provide information regarding bribes to FIFA.

The investigation into a bribery case at FIFA became known on May 27. At the same time, in Zurich, on the eve of the federation congress, several FIFA officials were arrested on suspicion of bribery. They were detained at the request of the United States. An investigation into possible corruption in the selection of host countries for the 2018 and 2022 World Cup is being conducted by the FBI and the US Attorney's Office.
