The Ministry of Health "ardently supports" the proposal submitted to the State Duma to ban alcohol to persons under the age of 21. This was stated by the head of the department Veronika Skvortsova, reports TASS.

In many countries of America and Europe, "childhood ends not at the age of 18, but at 21, when a person can more thoughtfully carry out his own actions, make decisions," said Skvortsova. “In our opinion, it will be better if we save our youth for an additional three years,” she emphasized.

On September 22, Anton Belyakov, a member of the Council of the Federation Council on Economic Policy, introduced a bill to the State Duma, increasing the age from 18 years to 21 years, upon reaching which you can buy and drink alcohol. The author of the initiative claims that, according to the results of sociological and psychological research, "the 18-year-old teenager is not able to make a conscious decision in the issue of alcohol consumption." According to Belyakov, a person can make such a conscious choice only at 21 years old.

The initiative was supported by the head of the State Duma Committee on Family, Women and Children Elena Mizulina. At the same time, taking into account the resonance that caused the bill, she proposed to conduct a “wide public discussion of the topic of increasing age -related restrictions on the sale of alcohol” with the participation of parents, teachers, children's psychologists, the medical community and youth organizations.

For increasing age -related restrictions on the sale of alcohol, in Rospotrebnadzor also spoke. "For Russia, in which alcohol abuse leads to premature death of about half a million people annually, the task of preventing the spread of alcohol dependence comes to the fore," the department said. It is noted that a third of boys and 20 percent of girls daily or every other day take alcoholic beverages, including beer.

In Russia, measures are regularly proposed to limit alcohol sales. So, at the end of August, a member of the Public Chamber, Sultan Khamzaev, sent a letter to Rosalkogolreguliegulation with a proposal to completely ban the sale of alcohol from 18 to 9 hours . Now the federal law prohibits the sale of alcohol in the country from 23 to 8 hours. At the same time, the regional authorities are allowed to establish additional restrictions on the sale, and some subjects of the Federation took advantage of this right. Khamzaev noted that in such regions "much lower than the level of household crime and other offenses committed intoxicated, as well as below, the mortality rate due to alcohol abuse."

At the same time, in February, Rosalcoolregulation reduced the minimum retail price for vodka . Instead of 220 rubles, it now amounts to 185 rubles per bottle. The minimum price as a financial instrument was designed to prevent the cheap fake alcohol market. It was originally planned to increase it from year to year, but in connection with the crisis situation in the economy they refused this.
