Visa's decision to abandon guarantees for processing domestic transactions on Russian cards from October 1 will not affect cardholders, Interfax reported on Monday, September 28, citing the NSPK press service.

The interlocutor explained that all banks send domestic authorization requests and exchange clearing messages for Visa payment system cards through the unified processing and clearing center NSPK.

“Sometimes, due to errors in banks’ processing systems, there are isolated cases of erroneous requests being sent to the Visa payment system,” he said.

According to a bank representative, it was precisely because of the refusal to process such erroneously directed transactions that banks were sent “notification of the need for additional control and elimination of such errors.”

The NSPK representative added that work is currently ongoing to optimize the routing of requests on the emission side of processing. “This is an internal technological process of NSPK, which is implemented according to the approved roadmap and does not in any way affect the acquiring of transactions,” the interlocutor concluded.

Earlier, the Kommersant newspaper, citing sources , wrote that the international payment system Visa, from October 1, will refuse guaranteed servicing of transactions on cards of Russian banks. The media referred to Visa's warning sent to its partners.

“Visa announced that from October 1, if authorization requests (obtaining approval from the system to carry out an operation) for local operations (within Russia) are received by Visa, it does not guarantee their processing,” said one of the newspaper’s interlocutors.

The NSPK appreciated Visa’s refusal to guarantee operations in Russia
