An appeal has been filed with the Leninsky District Court of Cheboksary against the sentence against activist Dmitry Semenov for reposting a VKontakte demotivator with an image of the ex-president of Russia.
“We consider the decision of the court of first instance unlawful, unreasonable, and we will seek the annulment of this verdict, as well as the full acquittal of my client in this case,” said his lawyer Yevgeny Gubin.
On September 17, 2015, the Leninsky District Court of Cheboksary found Semyonov guilty for public calls for extremist activities (Part 1 of Article 280 of the Criminal Code), imposed a fine of 150,000 rubles on him, and granted amnesty, freeing him from the fine and removing his conviction.
“Semenov reposted a link to an interview with Matvey Ganapolsky, and this demotivator was automatically attached to him. And Semenov had no intent to distribute it, ”Gubin notes.
