
The Ukrainian prisoner of war, Nadezhda Savchenko, can be issued to his homeland after the sentence in Russia, but only on condition that Kyiv recognizes this sentence and guarantees its execution. This was reported by Interfax with reference to the press service of the Russian Ministry of Justice. In the absence of such guarantees, officials explained, the issuance will be refused on the basis of Article 471 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
The issues of transferring convicts between Russia and Ukraine are also noted in the response of the interfax request, are resolved in accordance with the 1983 Convention on the transfer of convicted persons and the Russian Code of Criminal Procedure.
The day before, the lawyer Savchenko Mark Feigin commented on the agency for the prospect of issuing the prisoner to Ukraine: "This is the only exit in the conditions of a conviction, which I have no doubt."
Hearing on the merits of the prisoner’s affairs is on September 22 in the Donetsk City Court of the Rostov Region. The proceedings are conducted by the collegium in Leonid Stepanenko (presiding judge), Ali Khaibulaev and Evgenia Chernsh.
Savchenko is charged with points “A”, “E”, “l” of part 2 of Article 105 (the murder with a generally hazardous way of two or more persons based on political hatred, perfect by a group of persons), part 3 of Article 30 are paragraphs “A”, “E”, “E”, “L” of Article 105 (attempt on the same crime) and part 1 of Article 322 of the Criminal Code (illegal crossing of the border). The accused faces up to 25 years in the colony.
As stated in the case, the military pilot Savchenko, after the start of Russian aggression in Ukraine, who served in the Aidar volunteer battalion, on June 17, 2014 handed over the coordinates for artillery shelling, as a result of which VGTRK employees Igor Kornelyuk and Anton Voloshin died. The accusation explains the inclusion in the case of an episode of the assassination attempt on the murder by the fact that other civilians could die as a result of this shelling. It is also stated that in the future Savchenko illegally entered the territory of Russia, where she was detained.
In reality, Savchenko was captured by the militants of the LPR even before shelling, during which Korneluk and Voloshin were killed, and was illegally taken to Russia, where the case was fabricated against her.
Savchenko does not admit guilt. On September 29, during the interrogation, she stated that she went to Eastern Ukraine to defend her land. When asked by the prosecutor if Savchenko had to kill people, she replied: “Yes, I killed people who tried to kill me and attacked my land. In all the wars in which I took part” (
