Visualization of the number of dead in Syria

The New York Times prepared a material that clearly shows the number of those killed during the Civil War in Syria from March 2011 to August 2015. On visualization, each point is a person who was killed during the conflict.

The Civil War in Syria was the result of the death of more than 200 thousand people and the cause of the crisis of refugees in the Middle East and in Europe. The situation in the country is so dangerous that it is impossible to calculate the final number of deaths.

Several groups are trying to document the number of those killed, as well as those who killed them. Based on this information, visualization was created, and some data on the dead were presented.

The government and rebels use weapons, which is guaranteed to damage civilians. So, the number of children's deaths reaches 20% of the total number of those killed.

According to UN reports, the Syrian government has repeatedly used inaccurate missile attacks and uncontrollable bombs. Carbon groups used artillery devices equipped with explosive gas cylinders that cause significant damage.

The New York Times is given the following registered data on the number of dead civilians during the Civil War in Syria (until August 2015):

• More than 200,000 - so many people have been killed since March 2011;
• 28 277 - so many people from the civilian population died during executions and massacres;
• 27 006 - so many people from the civilian population were killed as a result of artillery and missile shelling;
• 18 866 - so much died as a result of air shelling committed by the Syria government;
• 8 871 - so much died as a result of torture, abductions and detentions;
• 984 - so many people died as a result of chemical attacks;
• 654 - so many medical workers died as a result of attacks on hospitals;
• 565 - so many people died of hunger, dehydration or lack of basic medical care;
• 181 - So many civilians were killed during an air attack against ISIS.
