The organization planned to evacuate the wounded from the city of Zabadani in the south-west of Syria, which is currently surrounded by pro-government military, as well as from two settlements in the province of Idlib, controlled by opposition. These operations were supported by Iran and Turkey.
In Syria since March 2011, an armed conflict has been ongoing. The government forces of Bashar al -Assad are opposed by the forces of the opposition and detachments of militants, belonging to various armed groups. The most active are militants of extremist groups “Islamic State” and “Jebhat al-Nusra”, both in Russia are recognized as terrorist and prohibited.
The military operation of the Russian Air Force in Syria started on September 30, 2015. The reason for its beginning was the corresponding official request of Bashar al -Assad for help in the fight against terrorist groups. The struggle against terrorists in Syria is also conducted by the International Anti -Terrorism Coalition, headed by the United States.
