1835. Grigory Potanin was born

180 years ago, on October 4, 1835, Grigory Nikolaevich Potanin, geographer and writer, researcher of Central Asia were born. In the summer of 1865, he was arrested in the case of the "Society of Independence of Siberia", involved in the court on charges of striving to separate Siberia from Russia and sentenced to three -year hard labor. Potanin actively advocated the creation of the Siberian Regional Duma and considered Siberia a colony of European Russia. After the 1917 revolution, he was a member of the Constituent Assembly, and in 1918 the Anti -Bolshevik Provisional Siberian Government awarded him the title of Honorary Citizen of Siberia.
