The exam on history may become mandatory since 2018, the head of the Ministry of Education and Science said

The introduction of a compulsory unified state exam (USE) on history is still being discussed, and an obligatory exam in a foreign language awaits graduates only in 2022. This was announced by the Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation Dmitry Livanov in an interview with the newspaper Kommersant .

“In the next three years, we do not plan to enter any new exams. The decision has not yet been made for a more distant perspective, but, in my opinion, a mandatory history exam would be possible since 2018 or 2019,” the minister said.

According to Livanov, on the introduction of a compulsory exam on history, so far everything is at the stage of collecting expert opinions. The Ministry of Education and Science proceeds from the fact that there should be no surprises, and all changes should be announced in several years, the minister explained.

“At the same time, we continue the gradual rejection of the test part of the exam - this will allow, using graduation tests, to check not only the baggage of knowledge that was accumulated by the student, but also his ability to use them. Thus, we begin to use the meta -subject approach,” Livanov noted.

In addition, as the head of the Ministry of Education and Science specified, the list of exams on the choice will be expanded: among them, for example, Chinese will appear. He recalled that the introduction of the foundations of the second foreign language was recorded in the GEF (federal state educational standards) of the main school, which were adopted back in 2010, and there was no surprise here.

"Each school, each region had enough time to prepare for the introduction of these standards. There is enough time now, since the introduction of a new standard is designed for five years. But now we have already included about 10% of schools in their programs," the minister said.

“There is no haste, but by 2020 the conditions for teaching the second foreign language should be created in each school. And from 2020, the introduction of the Federal State Educational Standard for 10-11 grades will begin, in 2022 this process will end, and then we will first conduct a foreign language exam for all graduates of the 11th grade,” said Livanov.
