The story of Andrei Mashnin and his group “Mashninband” is told in the book “Songs in the Void” about the lost groups of Russian rock of the 1990s . In the late 1980s, Mashnin worked as a stoker in the famous Kamchatka boiler room with Viktor Tsoem and performed with songs under the guitar at concerts of the Leningrad rock club, and in the 1990s turned into a frantic frontman of one of the first hardcores of St. Petersburg. Mashninband recorded five full -fledged albums that can already be considered the classic of Russian alternative rock. Mashnina’s most famous song “PS Sam (Ayia)” in 2004 reappeared Yegor Letov and included in the album of “Civil Defense” “Long Happy Life”. In the mid-2000s, Mashninband ceased to exist. Andrei Mashnin almost for good moved from music, concentrating at work by the editor in the automobile magazine.
On October 11, the theater club will take place the first after a long break and the only Moscow performance by Mashninband. Denis Boyarinov asked Andrei Mashnin about why he “laid it on everything” in the 2000s and why he decided to return to the stage.
-How do you feel about 1990? It was a “dashing”, difficult time or some other for you?
-In the 1990s, I was 30 years old, and in the 2000s-40. By the forty years, I was already used to a lot, in addition from 1992 to 2002. My wife and I lived in Kupchino, and we were quite fun. At night there were often shot under the windows, cars turned over, something always happened. For bread it was necessary to stand on the street in line for a long time. Video rollings, stalls, all kinds of floods. On the other hand, the first abroad: Berlin, Hamburg, Paris. Then I moved from singing to the guitar to singing in the group. He composed a bunch of songs in 1994-1996, three albums were recorded. In 1995, the authorities dispersed Kamchatka. My wife and I learned at the institute on editors and got a job in the magazine where we are still working. They survived this time. And in 2002, his son was born, another life. Until 2005, we performed, but then the guitarist Ilyich (the guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Leonid Zamoskovsky, who recorded two key albums Mashninband with Mashnin-Zhelezo and Bomb.-Ed. ) Was forced to leave the city to a distant village-and the group fell into a coma, and I focused on the family and work. If now, in general, to recall the 1990s, then for me and my wife they went quite interestingly, there is something to remember. We had no savings, there was no business, there was some food, clothes too. We were young and without special requests. On the scale of the country and the world, I cannot analyze this time.
- Do you remember the last concert of Mashninband in Moscow - when and where did it take place? How was it?
- Judging by the notes from our site, this concert was held on April 3, 2005 in the 35 mm club. I don’t remember anything special. Apparently, there was an ordinary concert. Ah, then Letov seems to have come.
- Can these concerts “Mashninband” be called “Return of the Group”? What prompted you to return to the stage? Will you give more concerts - or is it a one -time event?
- You can call it that way - in fact, there is nothing to object here. But this is not close to me, especially if you say it like a caplist. I repeat, due to Ilyich’s personal circumstances, in 2005, we could not play further-and stopped. Now we can - and play. Everything turned out by itself, no one did anything for this. In August, we gathered quietly and began to rehearse, and in the apartment of one comrade. Then they also wanted to play a test concert in a small club, almost for their friends and relatives. But suddenly the tickets grabbed in three days, and a small crush happened. Therefore, I promised everyone to play again in Moscow - for those who could not come, and give another concert in St. Petersburg, in the club more. This is happening now. And then I don't know. At the last rehearsal, we signed a contract with a concert agency. Maybe it will set us up for something.
Is this definitely not about Tsoi quote?
- What do you know about the fate of Leonid Zamoskovsky? Where is he and what happens to him?
- Leonid is a difficult person. Partial. No wonder he was called "fair." Therefore, I, in general, was not surprised when I accidentally found out where he is recently. So it should have been. I can’t tell in detail yet. He got in touch with me in April, his call sign “Elephant”. This is all that can be said now. I hope to see him again. By the way, he changed his last name and hairstyle.
-Is it true that from the mid-2000s, as soon as you moved away from regular performances, have stopped writing songs?
- Yes, that is so. Writing songs was absolutely useless. There was no one to play with them.
Kochegars "Kamchatka" Evgeny Titov and Andrey Mashnin, 1989-In the book “Songs in the Void”, you are called the Hero of the 2000s-in the sense that you made your choice: “You preferred the music stable work, turning yourself inside out on stage-an ironic blog, stakers, dressing rooms and upsets-a spacious apartment on the outskirts of the city: in a sense, Andrei Mashnin is more like a hero of the 2000s than any other hero of this book.” Why did you make such a choice? And was there a choice?
-Ha ha ha! Is this definitely not about Tsoi quote? I haven't read the book yet. That is, a panel odnushka in Kupchino-is it called "a spacious apartment on the outskirts of the city"? I remember the Germans came to my birthday. We went into the room and think. I say: “What? Varum Zer Treurich? " They are so timid: "And where to go further?" That is, our spacious room on the outskirts of the apartment to them, you see, seemed to be a hallway. In general, I do not remember that one of our stakers dreamed of retiring from the boiler. All at the first opportunity left. I worked there the most, by the way, in that other boiler room, acting. And he left in connection with her closure. The rest ran away before - and did the right thing. If, again, someone believes that the work of the editor is a super-profitable business, then he is mistaken. We stopped playing solely because of Ilyich's departure. In addition, this musical idea was stained - we could not kill Russian Rock. Shevchuk was stronger.
Put on everything is not a sin.
- In the same book “Songs in the Void”, producer Sergei Firsov says: “For me, the story of cooperation with Mashninband was very important. It was a continuation of what I did before when I collaborated with the “civil defense” and Bashlachev. Mashnin clearly continued their traditions. And at the same level, I think. For me, a great disappointment that Mashnin put on everything. ” What do you think about it? Do you agree that you continued the traditions of Bashlachev and Civil Defense? What are these traditions?
- Put on everything is not a sin. I think that if I died then, some would not be so disappointed. They would remember me with enthusiasm. They would say: "Here is Mashnin yes, well done." But I, you know, my parents, son-child, my beloved wife. For a fig to me. Well, I then imagined that I-in the image of the youth idol-really died in 2005. After all, I thought - everything, I would never go on stage again, the circumstances have developed like that. Two or three months ago I thought so. Then he went out at the concert, took the microphone - hmm, I think this is strange. But their hands remember. And I did not seem to continue any traditions. I don’t know what kind of traditions are.

- What do you think about the current state of Russian rock? Do you follow the activities of the Grandes - BG, Alice, DDT, Butusova? Are there any young rock groups that you like? What music sounds in your car?
-No, no, the current Russian rock does not interest me at all. I perceive old notes - as part of my past life. New - nothing. I just don't listen. I think they do it, because they have nothing more to do. At the same time, I am glad that you can again go to “strange games”. I am glad that there is Auktsyon, and this is not a “Russian rock” at all. I am very sorry about Grisha Sologub. I am very sorry about the summer. I don't listen to young rock bands. I'm not sure that they exist. What is usually played now is difficult to call rock music. In my car I have a radio. Anyone.
