
The Gorno-Altai City Court of the Altai Republic sentenced the 42-year-old local resident Dmitry Beregoshev by eight months of corrections with a deduction of 15 percent of the state’s income for publishing comments with criticism of the Russian Orthodox Church. This was reported by the regional headquarters of the TFR. As the Republican prosecutor's office clarifies , Bereshev is a state official; His department, however, does not call his position.
The defendant was found guilty under part 1 of Article 282 of the Criminal Code (excitement of hatred or enmity, as well as humiliation of the dignity of a group of people on the basis of attitude to religion, as well as belonging to a social group, committed publicly and using the media). The sanction on this charges is up to four years in the colony.
There were three episodes in the case. They are dated July, October and November 2013. According to the prosecutor’s office, at that time Bereshev from his service computer published comments on the website of the “News of Gorno-Altaysk”, “aimed at the formation and maintenance of a negative attitude towards Christianity and the Russian Orthodox Church”. According to the TFR, in a comment left in October 2013, the official also "substantiated the need to carry out hostile actions against the followers of the Christian religion."
Whether Bereshev admitted his guilt, is not reported.
