DPR postpones elections again

Elections in the DNR have been postponed for another month. The head of the self-proclaimed republic, Alexander Zakharchenko, ordered that they be held on March 20, 2016. Earlier it was reported that the voting will take place on February 21.

“We know that the people of Ukraine do not want to fight. And we are ready to resolve issues through direct negotiations with Kiev. But all decisions taken at the Minsk talks must be agreed with the representatives of the DPR without fail,” said Denis Pushilin, a representative of the DPR.

• Initially, elections to local self-government bodies in the DPR were scheduled for October 18. In the LPR, they were planned to be held on November 1.
• On October 6, separatist representatives announced that the elections had been postponed to February 21. The corresponding decision was made after the talks between the leaders of Russia, Ukraine, Germany and France in Paris.
• The Ukrainian authorities demand the abolition of elections in the DPR and LPR. President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has repeatedly called them illegal.
