According to the publication, Eskender Nebiev was taken into custody in connection with the clashes in Simferopol on February 26, 2014. At a meeting of the Central District Court of Simferopol, the Russian prosecutor of Crimea, Natalia Poklonskaya, asked the court to change the preventive measure for the operator from bail to arrest.

Eskender Nebiev was arrested on April 22, 2015 as part of a criminal investigation on charges of participating in mass riots (part 2, article 212 of the Criminal Code) during the events of February 26, 2014 near the Crimean parliament.

After almost two months, he left the pre-trial detention center under the guarantee of the Mufti of Crimea Emirali Ablaev.
