The American corporation Microsoft and the largest Russian Internet company Yandex have signed a strategic cooperation agreement, within the framework of which Yandex search has become the default search for two Microsoft browsers in Windows 10, the press service of the Russian company reported to Forbes on Tuesday.

“Yandex will become the default start page and search integrated into the Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer browsers on devices running on the Windows 10 platform,” the press release says.

On Windows 10 devices, Microsoft will offer the browser and search experience familiar to users from Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Turkey and a number of other countries using the Yandex search service.

Yandex, for its part, must create a special page on which it will tell users about the advantages of Windows 10, demonstrate its capabilities and invite them to download and install this operating system. Yandex will also release various Windows applications, including those for searching for information, orientation and navigation, listening to music, ordering a taxi, maps and searching for goods.

“Today, Yandex search has already been integrated into our Windows Phone mobile platform in the markets of these countries. Now we plan to implement Yandex search across the entire Windows 10 ecosystem in this region,” said Terry Myerson, executive vice president of Microsoft’s Windows Devices division.

“Windows 10 has already proven success and demonstrated enormous potential, largely thanks to Microsoft’s willingness to cooperate with strong local developers,” said Yandex co-founder and CEO Arkady Volozh .

The Windows 10 operating system became available on July 29, 2015. As of October 8, Windows 10 was installed on 110 million devices worldwide.
