Yanukovych's son appealed to the ECHR

The son of the ex-president of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych, Alexander, filed a lawsuit with the European Court of Human Rights because of the violation of his rights by the current authorities of Ukraine. on his Facebook page This was announced by his press secretary Yuri Kirasir.

The basis for filing a lawsuit was the decision of the National Bank of Ukraine for the year that declared the All-Ukrainian Development Bank insolvent, the owner of 100% of whose shares was Oleksandr Yanukovych. After that, a temporary administration was introduced into the bank, and Yanukovych lost his property rights and regarded these actions as a de facto expropriation. “Alyaksandr Yanukovych explains filing a lawsuit with the European Court of Human Rights by the impossibility of defending his legal rights in Ukrainian courts, which are under pressure from the current Ukrainian government and carry out political orders against its opponents,” Kirasir explained.

The son of the ex-president of Ukraine intends through the ECHR to oblige Ukraine to pay him material compensation in the amount of the market value of the bank's shares.

In July, the Security Service of Ukraine blocked 110 million hryvnia (about $5 million) destined for MAKO-Trading, which is owned by Alexander Yanukovych. This amount was written off the day before by a court decision from the accounts of Arcelor Mittal Kryviy Rih in favor of Yanukovych's company, which filed a claim for debt recovery. On April 15, the SBU opened a criminal case against the MAKO-trading company, which is being checked for involvement of officials in the financing of terrorism.

Oleksandr Yanukovych himself is suspected of violating Part 2 of Article 366 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code (“Official forgery, forgery of documents, as well as drawing up and issuing knowingly false documents, which entailed serious consequences”). Also, an investigation against Yanukovych was launched by the Geneva prosecutor's office. Swiss law enforcers accused the ex-president's son of money laundering and misappropriation of Ukrainian state property.

Viktor Yanukovych served as President of Ukraine from February 2010 to February 2014. He fled the country after several months of mass protests, after which he was stripped of the title of president. Several criminal cases have been initiated against him, including on embezzlement on an especially large scale.
