The provider spoke about an unsuccessful attempt to disconnect Russia from the Internet

Andrey Semerikov, CEO of the ER-Telecom provider, said that the Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications and Roskomnadzor conducted an experiment in the spring of 2015, during which they tried to simulate Russia's disconnection from the foreign segment of the Internet.

According to Semerikov, during the experiment, instructions were sent to large telecom operators to block traffic that goes through certain trunk channels. The general director of ER-Telecom claims that it was not possible to completely block the traffic: it continued to go abroad, and it turned out to be impossible to establish its routes. Semerikov suggests that the experiment failed due to the large number of small providers.

In particular, these providers do not have DPI systems (traffic management systems), which does not allow the state to control their traffic. In addition, providers often use satellite channels, which creates connections between Russian and foreign Internet that are not controlled by the authorities.
