What the Ural cities and villages turned into, which were once the industrial center of the country, in the project “SHOM” the photographer Fedor Telkov

The Urals is the most industrial region of the country. Most of the settlements here are built around plants and for servicing factories. After the war, the forces of the prisoners here created several closed cities (but), where nuclear weapons were developed. They were surrounded by barbed wire, but their harmful fumes infected the entire district. Some enterprises gave life to large cities that exist to this day, others are outdated and disappeared, or remained ruins of dam in the villages. In the post -industrial era, many enterprises closed, others reduced momentum, others (but their number is negligible) were able to change technologies and adapt to the requirements of modern life.

The problem of single -industry towns in the Urals is especially relevant - the enterprise closes, the city also disappears. The remains of factories, mines, quarries and factories, cemeteries of nuclear waste-all these are sad monuments of a once-rich industrial region, in which residents are in vain trying to support a fading life. As if they could, they cloud the life of the Urals.
