The head of the European Council Donald Tusk expressed "cautious optimism" regarding the agreements reached
The leaders of the European Union and Turkey, at the summit in Brussels, agreed on a preliminary plan of action to limit the influx of migrants to Europe. According to available estimates, there are currently about two million refugees in Turkey, mainly from Syria, covered by armed conflict.
According to the head of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Junker, the size of ANKARA will be discussed with the Turkish authorities in the coming days, and the resolution of the issue of simplifying the visa regime "will be accelerated".
The President of the European Council Donald Tusk said at a press conference that he was experiencing "cautious optimism" regarding the agreements reached.
Earlier, Türkiye turned to the EU for help in the amount of three billion euros for the arrangement of refugee reception centers, while at the same time asking to simplify the visa regime for Turkish citizens who want to visit countries of the Schengen zone. It is reported by the BBC.
This year, about 600 thousand migrants have reached EU countries. Most of them, according to the International Migration Organization (IOM), get to Europe through Turkey.
