Krasnodar scientist was released from punishment for ordering a psychotropic substance from China

The Presidium of the Krasnodar Regional Court freed Dmitry Lopatin from the criminal record of the Kuban inventor and laureate of the Zvorykin Prize. This was reported on the website of the regional prosecutor's office.

In the summer of 2015, Lopatin was accused of acquiring a substance recognized by psychotropic in Russia-gamma-butyrolactone. According to the prosecutor's office, he was used by Lopatin and his team as a solvent for the manufacture of solar panels, which were interested in the Shell and Indian authorities. During the trial, the scientist was found guilty and sentenced to a conditional time under the article “Smuggling”. The accusation under the article “illegal acquisition without a goal of selling psychotropic substances in large scale” was removed from him.

The prosecutor’s office, which demanded to appoint him 11-year prison term, opposed the too soft, in her opinion, sentence. After that, the “scientist’s case” began to acquire a broad public outcry, and representatives of the prosecutor's office abandoned their intentions.
