The Moscow City Court rejected the appeal of the extension of the arrest of the journalist of RBC Alexander Sokolov, accused of extremism for the creation of the "army of the will of the people." This was reported by RAPSI.
Lawyer Olga Chavdar asked to free Sokolova on bail of 500 thousand rubles. As a collateral, she also offered a one -room apartment in Moscow.
Sokolov, who participated in a meeting on video communication from the pre -trial detention center, said that the ABN in which he took part was not an extremist organization. “There are no crimes as such, so there are no witnesses, no victims, which theoretically I could put pressure,” he emphasized. Sokolov explains his criminal prosecution with his journalistic and scientific activities. He was engaged in investigations of theft of budget money. His last publication spoke about the Vostochny cosmodrome. Sokolov’s dissertation was devoted to corruption in the state corporations during the Olympics in Sochi.
Meanwhile, already on Tuesday, the Khamovnican Court will consider the following request of the investigator, who insists on the further extension of the deadline for the arrest of Sokolov.
On September 21, Judge Khamovnichesky Court Konstantin Pokhilko refused to free Sokolov on bail and extended his arrest until October 22 . On the same day, the accomplice of Sokolov Valery Parfenov was extended. Earlier, the court extended the measure of restraint to the chief defendant of the case, the former editor of the Duel newspaper Yuri Mukhin - he remains under house arrest. All three were arrested in July, a month later Mukhin softened the preventive measure.
Mukhin, Sokolov and Parfenov charged under Part 1 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code. They face up to eight years in the colony for creating AVN. In the fall of 2010, the Moscow City Court recognized this group as an “extremist community”. AVN was renamed the initiative group to hold a referendum "for responsible power." The group advocated the adoption of laws establishing the direct responsibility of the president and parliament for their activities, and amendments to the Constitution through the referendum.
On August 5, the leaders of the Moscow Helsinki Group Lyudmila Alekseev, the Civil Promotion Committee, Svetlana Gannushkin and the Lev Ponomarev Movement of Human Rights, came out in support of Mukhin, Sokolov and Parfenov . The question that the arrested proposed to be solved in a referendum, human rights activists described as "absurd from a legal point of view." At the same time, they noticed, any question before submitting to the referendum passes the examination of the Constitutional Court, and therefore "any anti -constitutional initiative can be calmly stopped, dispensing without prohibitions and criminal prosecutions, and even more so without landing."
The authors of the appeal called the ban on the ABN "blatantly anti -constitutional", expressing regret that the Russian public at one time did not respond to it properly. "We consider Mukhin, Sokolov and Parfenov the victims of political persecution and demand their immediate liberation," the statement said.
The leadership of RBC did not make any statements about Sokolov. “As a company, we provide Sokolov and his family with legal assistance, we expect that the court will establish Sokolov’s innocence,” the press secretary of the Zlating Nikolaev holding told the faces. “Human rights assistance to Sokolov is also provided by the lawyers of Agora and Open Russia. The Presidential Council under the President took this case.”
In a conversation with the "faces", one of the holding employees noted that Sokolov violated the terms of the contract, which prohibits RBC reporters of any political activity.
On August 13, a coordinated rally was held in Moscow in support of the support of Mukhin, Sokolov and Parfenov (
