The investigation into the murder of four people in the Moscow region by businessman Amiran Georgadze will check the legality of the authorities granting him land for development and a construction license, official representative of the Investigative Committee of Russia (ICR) Vladimir Markin said on Monday, October 26.

According to him, the department will study the nature of Georgadze’s relationship with officials of the Krasnogorsk district administration and with law enforcement officials of both the Krasnogorsk region and the Moscow region. These measures will be taken as part of establishing the motive for the crimes.

Markin clarified that investigators have already conducted five searches, 15 seizures and eight inspections. According to him, suspicion is caused by the fact that Georgadze was in the administration of the Krasnogorsk district for a long time, free access to the office premises of the accused and his driver, as well as “the unimpeded passage of weapons through the security post, and the untimely call of the police to the scene.”

According to investigators, on October 19, Georgadze shot and killed the first deputy head of Krasnogorsk near Moscow, Yuri Karaulov, and the head of Krasnogorsk electrical networks, Georgy Kotlyarenko, in the premises of the Krasnogorsk government. According to preliminary data, all three were friends, and the cause of the conflict was the businessman’s deprivation of government contracts for construction. Later, the Ministry of Internal Affairs clarified that the identity of Georgadze’s alleged accomplice was established - this is the driver of businessman Shota Elizbarashvili. On October 22, the Babushkinsky District Court of Moscow arrested him until December 19.

Hiding from law enforcement agencies, Georgadze, according to the Investigative Committee, also shot and killed local resident Konstantin Smyslov and his companion Tristan Zakaidze. On the same day, investigators charged Georgadze in absentia with the murder of four people. The businessman was put on the federal wanted list.

The body of the “Krasnogorsk shooter” with a gunshot wound to the head was found on October 23 in one of the houses in the village of Timoshkino, Krasnogorsk district, Moscow region. Georgadze had two Makarov pistols in his hands, law enforcement agencies specified. Investigators ordered several examinations, including post-mortem psychological and psychiatric, ballistic and forensic examinations.
