A bill was introduced to the State Duma to suspend the indexation of salaries of civil servants, military pay and salaries of judges, according to a message published on Monday, October 26, on the official website of the lower house of parliament.

The bill provides for the suspension, until January 1, 2017, of certain provisions of 24 federal laws establishing the procedure for indexing social payments, benefits, compensation, salaries of state civil servants, salaries of military personnel, salaries of judges and other payments.

The document states that in 2016 the amounts of these payments will not be increased due to the current economic situation.

According to the document, the regions themselves will be able to decide whether to suspend indexation for employees of local authorities or not. The bill is aimed at ensuring that Russia can fulfill all its obligations, as indicated in the explanatory note.

Consideration of the document in the first reading is planned at a plenary meeting, which will be held on November 13.

The Ministry of Finance proposed to abandon the indexation of salaries in 2016 for judges, prosecutors, employees of the Investigative Committee of Russia (ICR), federal officials, as well as military personnel and persons equivalent to them on October 7.
