Colonel-General Andrey Kartapolov, head of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff of the RF Armed Forces, said that the leadership of several Jabhat (front) al-Nusra groups (the organization is banned in Russia - Ed.) went over to the side of the Syrian opposition , Interfax . reports

The militants, according to Kartapolov, were surrounded by government troops and are trying to escape, announcing the transition to "moderate opposition."

“In order to receive political support and financial assistance from abroad, the leadership of a number of gangs that were part of the Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist group decided to abandon the symbols and go under the banner of Harakat Ahrar ash-Sham, which is attributed by the West to “ moderate opposition,” said Kartapolov.

Recall that last week the media reported the death of one of the leaders of the al-Nusra Front, Abu Suleiman al-Masri.
