Oleg Tabakov remains at the head of the Moscow Art Theater named after Chekhov

The Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Vladimir Medinsky for five years extended a contract with Oleg Tabakov as an artistic director - director of the Moscow Artistic Theater named after A.P. Chekhov.

“Vladimir Medinsky today signed the renewal of the contract by Oleg Pavlovich Tabakov as a theater artist-director. This is the fourth five-year Tabakov contract in this position, ”said the press service of the Chekhov Moscow Art Theater.

The term of the current Tabakov contract expires on November 12. Official confirmation from the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation on the signing of a new contract has not yet been followed.

Oleg Tabakov headed the Chekhov Moscow Art Theater in 2000. According to the artistic director of the theater, if 15 years ago the occupancy of the hall was an average of 42%, now almost 100%. Tabakov considers this “one of the main visible manifestations of the popularity of the theater, its need for people.”
