Football players of the Nepal national team were accused of treason

In Nepal, several players were accused of treason due to their alleged participation in organizing contractual matches in the qualification tournament of the World Cup in 2011, Interfax reports with reference to the Air Force.

According to the authorities, the players were arrested three weeks ago, after the investigators discovered large amounts of money in their bank accounts. They were accused of receiving money in exchange for losses in matches.

The lawsuit against the players was registered on Sunday. The prosecution intends to seek life imprisonment if their guilt is found.

Among the detainees are the captain of the Sagar Tapa team, goalkeeper Ritash Tapa, as well as the former coach of Casey Anjan. The local football Federation forbade them to enter the field until the end of the proceedings.

A year ago, the then head of the Nepal Ganesh Tap football federation was forced to resign. He was accused of assigning several million dollars and receiving bribes. The FIFA investigation against the former official is continues to continue.
