Ecologist Evgeniy Vitishko will be released

On November 10, Judge of the Kirsanovskiy District Court of the Tambov Region, Sergey Deev, granted Yevgeny Vitishko's request for a mitigation of punishment. The court decided to replace the unserved part of the punishment with a milder type of sanction - restriction of freedom.

At the court session, the prosecutor and a representative of colony-settlement No. 2 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of the Tambov Region, where Vitishko is serving his sentence, supported the environmentalist's petition. The representative of the colony, Alexander Pluzhnikov, said: “Vitishko treats his work in good faith, participates in events, the penalties have been canceled, the administration supports the mitigation of punishment.”

Vitishko's defense asked the court to replace the unserved term of punishment with a fine, but the representative of the prosecutor's office, Anatoly Lyutov, did not support this request, noting that "it is difficult to accurately determine the limits of the amount of the fine."

As a result, the court replaced the real deprivation of liberty with restriction of liberty. Thus, if the decision made today by the district court is not challenged, then in ten days Evgeny Vitishko will be able to be released.
