FMS asked to extend the program of assistance to refugees from Ukraine

The Federal Migration Service (FMS) has prepared a draft government decree that will extend the work of temporary accommodation centers for refugees until December 2016 inclusive.

The draft resolution, according to the website of the FMS, is being approved by the Ministry of Finance.

At the moment, the FMS recalls, funding for temporary accommodation centers for refugees from Ukraine is carried out within the framework of a government decree, which expires on December 31, 2015.

• Earlier, a number of media outlets, citing sources in the FMS, reported that temporary accommodation centers for Ukrainian refugees would stop working from December 31, 2015. Officially, the migration service did not comment on these reports.
• The program for accommodation in temporary accommodation centers for refugees from Ukraine, as TASS reported in early November, is already operating in 70 constituent entities of the Russian Federation, and six more regions were planned to be included in it in the near future. In 2015, a total of 1 billion 183 million rubles were allocated to finance this program.
• According to the FMS, as of October, there were about 2.6 million citizens of Ukraine in Russia, more than a million of them from the southeastern regions of the country. According to the FMS, 16.4 thousand citizens of Ukraine and stateless persons are in temporary accommodation centers for refugees.
