Specialists of the Tretyakov Gallery conducted a large study of the picture of Casimir Malevich “Black Square” and found an inscription made by a pencil on the work, which is considered the author.
Experts of the GTG - Ekaterina Voronina, Irina Rustamova and Irina Vakar - almost completely deciphered the phrase, which, in their opinion, sounds like "the battle of blacks in a dark cave." So far, it has not been possible to completely decipher the word that begins with the letter “n” and ends with “s”. This is due to the features of the artist’s handwriting, whose letters “n”, “n” and “and” were very close in writing. However, the authors of the study suggest that this is precisely the word “blacks” - which is a reference to the work of Alphas Alla “Battle of Negro in a dark cave late at night”.

In addition, in the Tretyakov Gallery they found that there are two colorful layers under the “square”, and not one, as previously thought. The art critic Irina Vakar told Medusa that the canvas was investigated using radiography and macro. Thanks to the first study, the lower colorful layer was reconstructed, and macro photography showed the second, on which, in fact, the Black Square was written.
Vakar also said that the results of her research conducted with colleagues will be published in the book, and they will tell about discoveries in detail at a special press conference.
