Trolleybuses stopped in Sevastopol

Trolleybus service has been canceled due to a power outage in Sevastopol. According to the governor of the city, Sergei Menyailo, additional buses will be launched instead.

“We were forced to abandon the trolleybus service, although this is an extremely popular and socially significant mode of transport in our city. But it consumes 25 MW. In a situation where Sevastopol is provided with electricity by only 40 percent, we are forced to take this step,” Menyailo said.

• In total, 96 trolleybuses and 837 buses operate in Sevastopol. At the same time, one trolleybus carries on average three times more people than a bus.
• On the night of November 22, unknown people blew up power lines from the Kherson region of Ukraine to the Crimea. As a result, the peninsula was practically de-energized for some time. Then, backup sources of electricity began to work, but the Crimean authorities warned of rolling blackouts of electricity and water.
• Because of the state of emergency in Crimea, an emergency regime has been introduced. In Sevastopol, the work of kindergartens has been suspended.
