Ukraine has suspended transport freight traffic with Crimea

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko instructed the government to temporarily stop freight traffic with Crimea. This is stated in a message published on the website of the head of state.

Poroshenko proposed to urgently create a working group for a comprehensive analysis of the issue of stopping freight transport links with Crimea. It is noted that until the decision of the government, freight road and rail traffic in both directions should be suspended in order to develop a model for further relations between Ukraine and Crimea. The government supported this proposal.

“Recently, the confrontation between public activists and the occupying authorities of Crimea has escalated significantly. A number of criminal cases have been initiated against the initiators of the trade blockade of Crimea. The initiators of the indefinite action to block the supply of Ukrainian goods to the Crimean peninsula, which began on September 20 of this year, demand a complete cessation of trade relations with the occupied territory," the President of Ukraine stressed.

In September, the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, who were members of the Crimean Tatar Mejlis, organized a food blockade of the peninsula. Majlis activists and fighters of the “Right Sector” banned in Russia are blocking the exit of trucks with goods from Ukraine to Crimea.

On Sunday night, Crimea and Sevastopol were completely de-energized due to the explosion of two power lines in the Kherson region of Ukraine. Officials admitted that Crimea would not have enough of its own capacity to fully restore power supply, and in the worst case scenario, this would take about a month.
